Schools in Malawi have groups of mothers who meet at the school (like a PTA in the UK). As part of delivering the Lotus Project at each school the mothers are trained to make the reusable sanitary pads and are provided with sewing equipment and some materials with the aim of being able to set up a small business. We recently provided three of the schools at Chikuli, Kachanga and Chisombezi with a treadle sewing machine each for this purpose. In addition the groups are being given more training from Gerida, our Chanasa intern, to help them to understand the idea of a business. Kachanga school received the sewing machine and they convey their heartfelt gratitude to you and the entire Chifundo/Chanasa Trustees.
